Phantom Coupe
Interior View
Design Attributes
As
you’d expect from a Rolls-Royce motor car, extensive
use wood and leather creates an opulent atmosphere, while
the metal dashboard and chrome switches adds a fresh and exciting
dash of dynamism to reflect the Phantom Coupé’s
rakish exterior. A haven of luxury and comfort, swathed in
the finest leather, capped with the most exquisite wood veneers
and studded with high-gloss chrome and machine-finished aluminium
detailing, the Phantom Coupé’s sumptuous interior
is tailor-made for long journeys.
Equally satisfying is the effortless
way in which the simple array of primary controls conceals
the more complex secondary controls also satisfies the eye.
It’s this combination of exceptional quality and materials
with meticulous attention to detail that makes being in the
Phantom Coupé such an event for both driver and passengers.
Driving Controls
Your
primary point of contact with the Phantom Coupé, the
multi-function steering wheel is the product of detailed design,
and intended to reinforce the driver’s sense of control
and authority.
Custom-developed for the Phantom Coupé,
the wheel has a 4mm thicker rim than that of the Phantom,
which is intended to feel in keeping with the weight of the
steering, which has less power assistance for an increased
sense of connection for the driver.
Trimmed in black leather, with no stitching
to ensure a smooth surface, it has an elliptical cross-section,
to fill the curvature of the driver’s hand, and the
spokes have integrated horn buttons for intuitive use when
required. There are also a number of control switches, which
can be used to operate the stereo, telephone and navigation
system.
The automatic transmission is operated
via a ‘shift-by-wire’ column stalk, which controls
the gearbox via electronics rather than a mechanical linkage,
and offers the driver a simple choice between Park, Reverse,
Neutral and Drive for easy, intuitive operation.
Simple Interface
The
Phantoms Coupé’s interior was conceived around
a concept of ‘Functionality upon request’. This
has resulted in some delightful touches, such as the clock,
which rotates at the flick of a switch to reveal an LCD screen,
and the Multi-Task Controller (MTC), which gives the driver
complete control of the Phantom Coupé’s sophisticated
navigation, entertainment, communication and vehicle settings
systems, which are displayed on the LCD screen. Another example
is the location of the front seat adjustment controls, which
are hidden within the centre armrest.
Audio System
The
Phantom Coupé’s LOGIC7™ system is the most
comprehensive in-car hi-fi in the world.
With nine amplifiers and 15-speakers,
including a pair of 217mm bass speakers housed in their own
16-litre resonating chambers beneath the floor, the audio
system delivers incredible acoustic realism and a depth of
sound - thanks to its 7.1 surround sound processing specially
set-up to suit the Phantom Coupé’s acoustic demands
- that completely immerses you in music. And with a single
in-dash CD player, AM/FM tuner, a 6-CD changer located in
the lower glove compartment, or the optional audio integration
for iPod’ connection, it has a near-endless supply of
music from which to draw.

Dashboard Control
To
truly appreciate the quality of the Phantom Coupé’s
switches you need to use them. Plated in luscious, high-gloss
chrome, the ‘organ stop’ ventilation controls,
‘eyeball’ air vents and ‘violin tuning key’
buttons for the electric windows and stereo share a delicious
solidity and pleasing coolness to the touch. Weighted to perfection,
they are immensely satisfying to use, and reward on both a
practical and aesthetic level. Form and function have never
been fused more successfully.
Seating
A
full four-seater, the Phantom Coupé offers unsurpassed
comfort for you and up to three friends.
Though upholstered in the same, supple,
squeak-free leather as the Phantom, the Phantom Coupé’s
pillarless design means the seats have been re-designed. Up
front, the driver and front passenger seats incorporate the
seatbelt system, as the two-door configuration means there
is no B-pillar on which to mount the belts. Powered to enable
effortless adjustment, the seats also power forward and back
to allow unimpeded ingress and egress for rear seat passengers.
Those in the rear will enjoy Rolls-Royce’s
delightfully informal ‘lounge’ seat configuration,
which seats two passengers in uniquely sociable style, while
generous legroom further enhances comfort levels and a total
sense of relaxation.
Umbrella
A
unique design feature first seen in the Phantom, the Phantom
Coupé also benefits from the thoughtful and ingenious
provision of discreetly concealed umbrellas. Housed in special
compartments to assist drying, one umbrella can be found within
each front wing. Released at the touch of a button, the water-repelling
Teflon-coated umbrellas are easily accessible, and a perfect
illustration of our attention to detail.
Driving Environment
It’s
our firm belief that driving or riding in a Phantom Coupé
is one of the finest motoring experiences you can have.
The elevated seating position gives the
driver a sense of control and wellbeing thanks to a commanding
view down the Phantom Coupé’s impressive bonnet
and beyond, to the road ahead. Careful attention was also
paid to the positioning of the pedals, steering wheel and
driver, to ensure they are all in perfect alignment.
Driver and passengers alike will appreciate
the extensive use of the finest natural materials, as they
fill the interior with a sense of tactility and warmth, while
the new milled-finish aluminium dashboard extends the natural
metal theme from the Phantom Coupé’s striking
exterior to its cosseting interior.
Book matched veneers are available
as an option, should you prefer the intriguing grain, perfect
symmetry and high-gloss of the very best wood, while sumptuous
leather upholstery - the softest in the motor industry - cossets
passengers and driver alike, completing the impression of
being cocooned in supreme luxury.
Technology
Boasting
an extensive array of hi-tech features, the Phantom Coupé
is one of the most advanced cars on the road. Controlling
it all is the Multi-Task Controller (MTC) system, which enables
full operation of the car’s state-of-the-art communication,
navigation, entertainment systems and vehicle settings, via
one simple to use rotary controller. It is concealed below
the central armrest and activation reveals a screen in the
centre console that gives access to all the technology.
As an alternative, by pressing the
‘Talk’ button on the steering wheel, you can activate
the voice recognition system, which provides hands-free convenience
by enabling you to operate the telephone, navigation and audio
systems by voice alone. With both Bluetooth connectivity and
optional Audio Integration for iPod, the Phantom Coupé
also enables you to access your phone book and music collection
wherever you go.
Audio Integration for iPod
With
its iconic design and flawless functionality, Apple's iPod
has rapidly become the definitive portable personal entertainment
system.
In recognition of this we have developed
Audio Integration for iPod. Offered as an option in addition
to the standard Auxilliary-In Audio Socket, it provides a
fully integrated means of accessing and enjoying your iPod
playlist in the Phantom Coupé.
Once safely in its leather case and docked
in the cradle concealed within the Phantom's upper glovebox,
the iPod can be controlled by both driver and passengers,
using either the steering wheel buttons, the audio panel buttons
or Multi Task Rotary Controller.

Starlight Headlining
A
striking and original feature first seen in the 101EX experimental
car, the award winning Starlight Headlining is one of the
most striking options available for Phantom Coupé.
Designed to create the illusion
of a dazzling sky at night, the Starlight Headlining's magical
effect is created using fibre optic and LED technology. Comprised
of 1,600 hand-fixed ‘stars’ mounted into the leather
headlining, the brightness of the Starlight Headlining can
be adjusted to suit any mood or situation, from an intense
light for reading to a soothing glow for total relaxation.
It can also be switched off altogether.
Veneered Interior Cappings
The
finest, expertly applied wood veneer is one of the truly defining
features of the Phantom Coupé.
Taking inspiration from the finest tradition
of coachbuilt motor cars, the Phantom Coupé’s
door cappings, rear window surround and parcel shelf are available
with extensive architectural use of veneer. The exceptional
skill of our craftspeople, and our dedicated policy of only
using the wood from one tree for each car, ensures we can
create the illusion of one seamless flow of grain throughout
the interior.
All the wood used by Rolls-Royce is sourced
from, managed forests throughout the world, and it’s
a mark of our respect for this precious natural material that
we only employ the finest craftspeople in the industry to
lovingly work it into the many eye-catching elements that
complete each Phantom Coupé.
Not only do these rich and complex
veneers provide a wonderfully warm contrast to the cool, milled-finish
aluminium dashboard and deep lustre of the chrome switchgear,
its flawless natural beauty is sure to be a lasting source
of pleasure.
